| Though their home was founded on the traditions of the Maya, the denizens of Colombiana don’t much believe in the Long Count. The end of the Mayan calendar; the end of the world: it’s mythology, superstition, they claimand even the warnings of the great dragon Quetzalcoatl have not changed their minds.
Over five hundred years have passed since the Mayan and Aztec tribes threw the Europeans out of the land of the Sun, and Colombiana remains strong. Through its rich and varied history, the land has remained in the hands of its people…but now the time of closure has come.
The Silence Inside Her Heart, the first story arc of The Long Count, introduces Carmen Sandoval, the 23-year old national sports hero who is the only one heeding Quetzalcoatl’s warnings. Raised on the streets of the barrio, the poorest district of Nueva Cempoala, Colombiana’s capitol city, she learned the tools and tricks of survival, from dirty streetfighting to how to fend away the diablos, the street demons. She has returned home to save her friend, to save her city, and to save her world. But there is more to her story and her history than she ever knew. She is about to be burdened with a terrible and righteous task: to travel to the center of Colombiana and bring a close to all Creation, to rebuild the world in the image of the one destined to destroy it.
The year is 2012 AD.
This is the end of the Long Count.
